JOB VACANCIES

Via Athens News Despite the rising hysteria that says Greece is overflowing with immigrants, the government has announced that the country needs 57,000 more to fill vacancies in the job market, mainly in the agricultural sector. The lists of jobs have been drawn up by regional offices around Greece and will be posted at Greek consulates around the world. Workers will then be able to apply for specific jobs and, if successful, will be issued with a work visa. Kathy Tzilivakis of the Athens News writes: Greece is now ready to put in motion perhaps it's boldest and most ambitious plan to dead-bolt the back door to illegal immigration by opening the front door wider. Most of the jobs (almost 40,000) will be in central Macedonia. 45,619 of the vacancies are in agriculture (mainly picking and packing olives, grapes and vegetables), 7,962 in livestock and poultry farming and 2,001 in fishing. I know all the anti-immigration lot are going to get twitchy right about now but think about it. If there was a legal way to secure work in Europe people would take it. No-one is an illegal immigrant by choice. (Let's not get confused between people coming to Europe looking for work and those seeking asylum who often have no choice but to do so illegally). So, take a deep breath and count to ten before you respond.

this is tricky post,
there are a couple of scenarios
which have to do with your last paragraph.
SCENARIO no 1=first 50,000 workers
most of the permit workers will come from former yugoslavia, bulgaria.
They will be permant residents in a few years, and turned into a new voting consttuency for the new nation of macedonia with thessaloniki the capital.
scenario no 2 next 200,000 workers for the northern part of greece
has to do with the PRIME MINISTERS
trip to china
GREEK CAPITAL is making quite a bit ofmoney in shipping and construction
in exchange the new slavery intercountry laws will be taking on some of the populace of chinese origin
will they ever go back ?
will they change the identity of greece forever?

HOW is this being implemented for other annoying nations to legally
take the steam pressure off the worlds most populated country.
-----------------------------

ms DD I think you oversimplefied
the measures being taken ,
so i thru in a twist ,
so my question is are these measures that simple ,,?

if you think im going supernova
on this , erase it , its
a weekend anyways. but for those inclined to explain , why a nation with more than 12% unemployment,
should ship in workers..?

zardoz says:

i get your point , and i am in full agreement with you that this is the mentality,.
thats going around , being built since the early , 1960 and 70's

and has its roots in the 30 and 40 's generation who wanted their families,
to leave agricultural farming and to seek a better life

from hearing the stories of the first greeks in the 1890s and 1910 that
talked about the streets lined with gold in america , in australia, having
farms as large as the valley of thessalia .and the early industrialization
in great britain.

That and the social values of all these generations that always wanted to climb
to a higher social value thru consumerism , and not only .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

But on another hand the new generation doesnt agree with us.

WHY ? because i see the young ones giving examinations for the O.T.A.(city and local authority for many things.)
and find that for garbage personnel there are for instance 20 positions and there are 8,500 applicants RIGHT.!

and then i see the city not paying its garbage personnel , and these people in the meanwhile have made families.RIGHT. what do they eat , ? if there not paid.

and then you got the state not organizing were the garbage will be deposited ,how it will effect the enviroment
and all those concerned,,,, they start strikes for the enviroment and such .

god , i mean its not the system fault.......

AND if this MENIAL JOB isnt enough lets talk construction , since 1988 POLISH WORKERS ALBANIAN WORKERS
and others have participated in the lowering of salary standards from the quite high salarys that greek
were used to thus lowering to half the salary they were used to up to then,
to the stupidity
and greedyness of greek contractors , they got away with it .
AND now those slaves that the greek contractors were exploiting want benefits and higher wages
to live a decent life . greeks wont even touch half of the slave jobs, would you,,, ? ?

in a little while neither will the people of albanian polish , or pakistani , i mean they came here for abetter life, why should they go back to being animals,? or excuse me lower there standard of living,
................. theyve been there?
so have the greeks..? right..?

wowww maybe its the political parties they support and the systems fault they have chosen to govern them,,? right..?

--------- or is there another solution ..?

well cant think of any other MENIAL JOBS that greeks wont do , .... oh wait they wont go to agricultural

jobs , pickin grapes , oranges , olives , or cleaning fields , having work only for two- three months..

of course without benefits,,,you'd do it right....???????

Even worse is having agricultural fields and growing products and then having some wiseguy businessman

buing you out for almost nothin, year in and year out, and the system not gettin organized to export ,

and the only way to make end meet is to steal from the european subsidies program without doing any programming

the last 20 years. was it the farmer who knew how to steal the subsidies..?
dont think so ..
dont see any politician not wanting to be one though..? farmer or farm hand right..?

________________and

I MEAN I'M JEALOUS OF THE WAY ISRAEL EXPORTS products...

AND they copied the way there working from a 1950s program in the greek agricultural system,
so did the LIBYANS IN 1980s if you didnt know.

AND I DONT HAVE TO TELL YOU WHAT THEY DID WITH THE DESERT.

SO WHAT OTHER MENIAL JOBS ARENT BEING WORKED IN GREECE BY GREEKS ,,,,

thats why the prime minister was in china and japan.

hell export olive oil to japan and import 50000 chinese workers for the jobs which greeks wont do ,,,,

which are .......... ANYONE..?

I just wanted to add that these jobs would mean relocation to Macedonia. Isn't it difficult for many to contemplate that kind of move for very low wages and no benefits? I don't think it is just an unwillingness to do these jobs but an unwillingness to accept the apalling job conditions.

Welcome back sha. I agree that there is work if you want it enough. I am just trying to understand why there are so many vacancies unfilled. Do you think that people would be willing to move to Macedonia for these low paid jobs?
